Meet Johann, a dynamic individual with a passion for technology, travel, and creating meaningful connections. Johann brings a unique combination of technical expertise and a love for adventure to his role at Oceans. He has played a crucial role in opening new doors for the company. Outside of his professional life, Johann's heart beats for exploration and experiencing the wonders of the world, with a personal goal of visiting the seven wonders. Whether dancing salsa, immersing himself in new cultures, or planning his next trip.

Who is Johann Alexander Quintero Cortés and what is his role in the company?

Well, my name is Johann. I was born in Buenaventura, a city near the Pacific Ocean, next to Cali, one of Colombia's main cities. I am 39 years old and will turn 40 on July 3rd, in a few days. My role in the company has been as a consultant, especially in Microsoft Dynamics CRM technology and now Microsoft Power Apps. At Oceans, I have been able to open certain doors that we did not have, as I am the only resource in that technology, like a lone wolf, opening doors and reaching profiles that we did not have as a company.

How long have you been at Oceans? What was your first impression?

My time at Oceans has been somewhat eventful. I started a year and a half ago, and the initial interaction with Oceans was surprising, as I received the interview in a shopping mall. After being contacted again, I was surprised by the seriousness of the process. My first impression, after the first month, was like returning to a traditional company, with much interaction and attention to employees, which I had not experienced in many years of remote work. I felt part of a company that cares about the well-being of its employees, despite the distance and virtuality, I always feel accompanied.

What is it like working at Oceans?

Oceans has a particularity. Despite working directly with the client and being part of the client’s team, there is a curious closeness with the team. It feels like I can reach out and interact directly with my colleagues. I feel part of a team, of a traditional company, even though we are all in different countries.

What achievement at Oceans are you most proud of?

A significant achievement was with a client. Despite a project I was on ending suddenly, I had the opportunity to contribute to technical interviews and eventually bring in a new opportunity. My challenge was to convince the client, and a month later, they decided to hire me full-time. This year they projected hiring 13 more people for that client, which shows the trust we managed to generate.

What is your main motivation on a daily basis?

Something that I am passionate about is traveling. I have my home and family, but what motivates me the most is getting to know the world. I have the goal of visiting the seven wonders of the world and I have already started with that objective. My daily motivation is to work today so that I can travel and discover new places tomorrow.

What are your professional expectations?

My expectations have changed a lot. Initially, I wanted to be a technical and functional architect, and eventually a general manager. However, working for foreign companies and earning in another currency, my expectations have now shifted more towards becoming an investor. I am exploring the business world, making real estate investments, and learning about the stock market. My goal is to transition from employee to investor or business owner.

What do you enjoy most about working remotely?

What I enjoy most about working remotely is the freedom. I can decide where I am and how I organize my workspace. The possibility to pack up and work from anywhere is invaluable. That freedom allows me to enjoy my time and space as I wish.

How do you spend your free time outside of work?

If you had asked me two years ago, I would have told you that I taught Cuban salsa classes and practiced boxing. Currently, I have leaned a bit towards video games and the gym. However, I miss teaching dance classes a lot and I am in the process of resuming that activity. My passion after traveling is dancing, and if I am not traveling, I am dancing.

This is a glimpse into Johann’s life. His dedication to Oceans has allowed new opportunities for the company, while his motivation and aspirations reflect a constant desire for personal and professional growth.
